The Edo State Police Command has arrested two women found in possession of an automatic pump-action shotgun along with five live cartridges. The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday, November 27, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, in Benin City.
The firearm, identified as an automatic pump-action shotgun with Breach Number 0230, was reportedly concealed in a sack. The suspects, Believe Ehinor, 18, and Ofoma Sofia, 19, were taken into custody after police intelligence linked them to ongoing investigations into cult-related activities in the state.
Yamu stated that the two women were apprehended on November 25, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., following a routine investigation related to the earlier arrest of four suspected cultists by operatives of the Uromi Divisional Headquarters.
During questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed that the firearm belonged to one Peace Ehinor, who reportedly escaped during an earlier police raid. The command said efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
The arrest of the two women came shortly after four suspected cultists were apprehended during a coordinated raid in Uromi on November 23, 2025. The four suspects include:
- Godspower Ehihanor, 24
- Miracle Akhigbe, 27
- Miracle Kasheka, 25
- Honest Idemudia, 24
During interrogation, Godspower Ehihanor reportedly admitted to being a member of the notorious Aye Confraternity, a cult group linked to violent criminal activities across the region.
All six suspects, including the two women and the four earlier arrested individuals, have been charged to court for prosecution. Police officials emphasized that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional members of the group who remain at large.
The Edo State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling cult-related violence and illegal firearms in the state. Authorities warned that anyone found in possession of illegal weapons or linked to cult activities would face the full weight of the law, reflecting the command’s zero-tolerance policy on crime.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to local law enforcement. Yamu stressed that proactive community cooperation remains crucial in preventing violent crimes and ensuring public safety.
