The acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Felix Ese Idisi, has been shot dead by gunmen, throwing the local political landscape into shock and mourning. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, although specific details about the attack remain unclear as security agencies begin preliminary investigations.
Sources within the community reported that news of Idisi’s killing spread rapidly, triggering fear and concern among residents and political stakeholders. At the time of filing this report, the motive behind the killing had not been established. Party members and political observers have described the incident as both suspicious and deeply troubling.
Reacting to the news, the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo Agege, strongly condemned the killing in a statement posted on his official Facebook page. He described the incident as a barbaric act that violates human dignity and threatens the state’s democratic stability.
Omo Agege expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He noted that Idisi was a committed party official who dedicated himself to strengthening APC structures at the grassroots level. He said the incident is a stark reminder of the insecurity and lawlessness that have become recurring challenges in many parts of Delta State.
According to the senator, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the brutal murder of our Acting LGA Chairman in Ethiope East LGA. This act of violence is a stark reminder of the insecurity and lawlessness that have become a menace in our state.”
He called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police and the Inspector General of Police to launch a thorough and uncompromising investigation into the killing. He urged security agencies to leave no stone unturned in identifying, arresting and prosecuting the perpetrators. Omo Agege also referenced previous threats allegedly made by individuals who had openly boasted about plans to eliminate political rivals in the area. He insisted that such persons must be closely investigated.
“The killers who had previously boasted of eliminating their political enemies in the Local Government Area must be arrested, prosecuted and punished for their crime,” he emphasized.
The senator denounced any attempt to introduce violence into the political climate of the APC in Delta State. He insisted that the party has always operated on principles of peace, persuasion and grassroots engagement. He stressed that the APC does not have a culture of political killings and will resist any attempts to normalize such criminal behavior.
“I must reiterate that killing is not our culture in Delta APC. Our culture is winning hearts one person at a time. Those who are trying to import this evil act into our body polity in APC must desist immediately, as we will do everything within our power to resist this unacceptable evil culture of violence,” Omo Agege stated.
He reaffirmed that neither intimidation nor lawlessness would deter the party from its mission of promoting democratic values and strengthening the rule of law in Delta State.
In closing his statement, Senator Omo Agege offered heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the APC community in Ethiope East and all those who knew and worked with Idisi. He assured them that justice would be pursued relentlessly and urged security operatives to expedite efforts to apprehend those responsible.
