A food delivery driver in upstate New York has been arrested after filming a male customer allegedly found naked during a delivery, a surprising turn of events that has sparked widespread debate over privacy, safety and the vulnerability of gig-economy workers.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Olivia Henderson, claimed she arrived at the customer’s residence on October 12 to find him lying on a couch with his trousers and underwear around his ankles. In a TikTok video posted shortly after the encounter, she described the situation as “indecent exposure” and suggested that what she witnessed amounted to a form of sexual assault. The video quickly went viral, attracting millions of views before it was taken down.
However, the situation changed dramatically the next day when Henderson contacted police to file a report. According to authorities, Ring camera footage contradicted her account. Investigators allege that the footage showed she let herself into the home while the customer was unconscious due to alcohol consumption, challenging her claim that the door was left open. Police also noted that the man appeared “incapacitated” in the video she shared online.
DoorDash, the platform Henderson was delivering for at the time, responded by deactivating both her account and the customer’s. The company stated that recording and posting video footage from inside a customer’s home constituted a “clear violation” of its policies.
Henderson now faces felony charges of unlawful surveillance and disseminating an unlawful surveillance image. If convicted, she could face up to eight years in prison. She has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on December 4.
In a follow-up post, Henderson said she felt “punished as a victim,” maintaining that she acted out of fear and concern for her safety. DoorDash, addressing the controversy, emphasized that it takes all reports of harassment and assault seriously and encourages drivers to report unsafe situations directly to the company.
“We want every Dasher to know that if you ever feel unsafe or experience something concerning, come to us,” the company said. “We are here to listen, act and support.”
The case continues to generate strong reactions online, with many questioning how gig workers should navigate unsafe situations while still respecting customer privacy and legal boundaries.
