Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a stunning performance in Amsterdam on Wednesday night, firing Galatasaray to a commanding 3-0 victory over Ajax in the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen was unstoppable, scoring all three goals to silence the home crowd and push the Turkish champions closer to knockout qualification.
After a tight first half, the breakthrough came in the 59th minute when the Super Eagles forward rose highest to head in Leroy SanĂ©’s cross. He doubled the lead just seven minutes later from the penalty spot after Youri Baas handled inside the area. His third arrived in the 78th minute with another composed penalty following a handball by Gerald Alders. It was his first-ever Champions League hat-trick for Galatasaray.
Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Club Brugge in Belgium. Teen sensation Lamine Yamal shone for Hansi Flick’s side, scoring once and driving most of their attacking moves. At St James’ Park, Newcastle United extended their impressive European form with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao. Dan Burn opened the scoring with a powerful header before Joelinton added a second after the interval. The victory gave Eddie Howe’s side a third consecutive win in the competition.
Meanwhile, Chelsea narrowly avoided defeat in Azerbaijan, rescuing a 2-2 draw against Qarabag. Teenage star Estevao Willian had put the Blues ahead early on, but the hosts turned the game around before Alejandro Garnacho salvaged a point with a composed finish late in the match.
In other results, Manchester City cruised past Borussia Dortmund 4-1. Bayer Leverkusen edged Benfica 1-0. Inter Milan defeated Kairat 2-1, and Atalanta secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Marseille.
