Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has won all the 19 local government areas already announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Saturday’s governorship election.
Soludo recorded overwhelming margins in all the results declared, leaving his opponents far behind. His victory across the announced areas demonstrates strong support for his administration and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state.
The local government areas already announced include Dunukofia, Njikoka, Ogbaru, Awka North, Awka South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Aguata and Ekwusigo. Other LGAs are Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Anaocha, Idemili North, Idemili South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Oyi, Ayamelum and Anambra East.
There are 21 local government areas in Anambra State, leaving only two yet to be announced. These are Ihiala and Anambra West. INEC officials have gone on a one-hour break and are expected to resume by 6 a.m. to complete the collation and declaration of results for the remaining LGAs.
If the results hold, Soludo’s victory would make him the third consecutive governor from APGA after Mr Peter Obi and Chief Willie Obiano to rule Anambra State, continuing the party’s dominance and legacy of governance in the region.
Observers say the election reflects the electorate’s confidence in Soludo’s leadership and the continuity of APGA policies, particularly in infrastructure development, education and social programs.
With the collation process nearing completion, attention now turns to the official declaration of the final results by INEC, which is expected later today. The announcement will formally confirm Soludo’s second term in office and solidify APGA’s control over the state government.
