Bandits Kill Four, Abduct ECWA Pastor and 11 Others in Kaduna

Tragedy struck on Tuesday night as suspected armed bandits attacked three communities in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Four people were killed and 12 others, including a pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, Rev. Istifanus Dunga, were abducted.

The assailants, believed to be Fulani armed men, invaded Jantsauni, Mai Doki and Maiyamma, which are suburban areas of Yarkasuwa in Kurama Chiefdom, around 10 p.m. They fired sporadically as they moved from house to house.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the Federated Kurama Association, Mr. Pius Agaji Kyauta, the attackers left the communities in ruins. He said four young men aged between 27 and 30 were killed, and several others, including the ECWA pastor, were taken away.

“There is an urgent need for security intervention. Our communities have been ravaged beyond imagination,” Kyauta said, lamenting the devastation caused by the assault.

A resident, whose father and younger sister were among those abducted, recounted the terrifying experience. He said the attackers, numbering in their hundreds, surrounded targeted houses, leaving residents with no means of escape.

“You dare not go out to run; they will just shoot you. And if you remain indoors, they will enter and take you away,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, no ransom demand had been made by the kidnappers. The communities remain in deep mourning, with locals describing the incident as a great tragedy that has befallen the Kurama people.

“This evil requires both security and spiritual intervention,” Kyauta added.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
