Christopher Davenport, an inmate at the St. Francis Detention Center in Arkansas, briefly escaped custody while performing routine duties at the facility. The startling incident occurred on Monday, November 24, and was captured on video surveillance, showing Davenport running off while taking out the trash.
Davenport, a trustee at the detention center, was discovered missing during a routine headcount at approximately 7:00 p.m. Authorities quickly launched a search after realizing he had taken advantage of his assigned duties outside the facility. Surveillance footage shows him leaving the trash area around 6:21 p.m., moments before fleeing the premises.
At the time of his escape, Davenport was facing multiple felony charges, including first-degree battery, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, and weapons offenses. He was also facing additional charges following a previous arrest by the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to the Arkansas State Police, Davenport had been taken into custody on September 19, following a shooting incident at the Star One Food Mart in Forrest City. He had been transported to the St. Francis Detention Center and was awaiting trial when the escape occurred.
Law enforcement successfully recaptured Davenport on Wednesday, November 26. Forrest City Police Chief Ronald Broussard confirmed to FOX13 that officers located the escaped inmate hiding in an abandoned home on Farley Street.
The arrest brings relief to the community and underscores the vigilance of local law enforcement in responding quickly to security breaches at detention facilities.
Authorities are reviewing detention protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future, and Davenport will face additional legal consequences for his escape.
