All 38 Worshippers Abducted From Kwara Church Rescued, Governor Confirms

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the successful rescue of all thirty eight worshippers abducted during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, located in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye. The statement credited federal authorities, security agencies, and coordinated government efforts for the breakthrough. According to the Governor, the rescue operation was the result of sustained pressure and collaboration among several national security bodies.

The statement read that after many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives, the Governor was excited to announce the freedom of the thirty eight abducted worshippers. He explained that their release was achieved through intensive efforts personally led by President Bola Tinubu, who remained actively involved in monitoring developments and directing strategic responses.

The Governor expressed deep gratitude to the President, noting that the President had postponed his scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa in order to address security breaches in both Kwara and Kebbi States. He added that the President also ordered increased security deployments to Kwara, which demonstrated his commitment to the safety and welfare of citizens.

The statement further acknowledged the contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force. It noted that the Police deployed four new tactical teams to Kwara State on the direct instruction of the President, which played a significant role in securing the release.

Governor AbdulRazaq also extended appreciation to security personnel across all agencies, community leaders, religious institutions, and residents of Kwara State for their support, cooperation, and goodwill throughout the period of uncertainty. He described the rescue as a major relief to the state and reaffirmed his administration’s continued commitment to public safety.

Further details regarding the rescue operation are expected as security agencies continue their investigations.
