Actor Baba Ijesha Released From Prison After Appeal Court Clearance

Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison after spending more than three years in custody over allegations of sexual assault.

The actor regained his freedom on Friday, November 14, 2025, following a decision by the Appeal Court that cleared him of the charges that led to his imprisonment.

Confirming the development, actor Yomi Fabiyi announced Baba Ijesha’s release in a post shared on Instagram on Friday evening. Fabiyi stated that the actor had been acquitted and was now officially free.

Fabiyi wrote, “You are now officially free and out. Baba Ijesha is not just back but better. I am also happy you were cleared by the Appeal Court of ever having sex or defiling any child or minor. The seven year old story is a charade. We live in a terrible world where sentiments and wickedness rise above the rule of law and truth.”

Baba Ijesha was initially sentenced to sixteen years in prison on July 14, 2022, by the Lagos State High Court after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a fourteen year old girl. His case sparked widespread public debate and drew significant media attention across the country.

With the Appeal Court ruling now in his favour, the actor has been discharged, marking a major turning point in a case that has lasted several years.
