An abandoned newborn baby boy has been rescued alive by residents in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The Adon Garin Wamba, Mohammed Zaharadeen, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday morning, November 9, 2025. According to the statement, the abandoned infant was found in the Small London area of Wamba on Sunday and handed over to the appropriate authorities for immediate medical evaluation and care.
In an update, Zaharadeen revealed that the mother of the child has been identified, but the baby will not be released to her due to her act of neglect. “Following the discovery of a newborn baby boy earlier today in Small London, Wamba, we wish to inform the general public that the mother of the child has been identified. She hails from a village in Wamba known as Bambu,” the statement read.
After careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident, His Royal Highness Alhaji Lawal Musa Nagogo directed that the baby should not be released to the mother because of her act of neglect. However, she will be permitted to visit the Oriye Rindre palace in Wamba to breastfeed the baby under supervision, after which she will return to her residence.
The baby remains under the care and protection of His Royal Highness and community authorities. He is receiving proper medical attention and support from healthcare workers and concerned residents. The community leader expressed appreciation for the swift and compassionate response from community members, hospital staff, and everyone who showed concern.
“This situation serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the lives and welfare of innocent children. Every child deserves love, care, and protection, regardless of the circumstances of their birth,” the statement concluded.
