A 21-year-old student, Abdul Rehman, is currently receiving medical treatment after he was allegedly set on fire by five friends during what was supposed to be his birthday celebration in Mumbai.
The incident occurred on the night of November 25 within the Vinoba Bhave police jurisdiction. According to the victim’s brother, Abdul was called downstairs at midnight by his friends under the pretext of celebrating his birthday. The group initially threw eggs and stones at him as part of the celebration. However, events took a disturbing turn when the friends reportedly retrieved a flammable liquid from a scooter, poured it on him, and set him alight.
The act was captured on CCTV cameras in the area, providing crucial evidence for investigators.
Abdul Rehman sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have arrested all five accused individuals. They have been remanded in custody until November 29 as investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
