A 13 year old girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 50s was found dead inside a residential property in Baydon Close, Moredon, Swindon.
Emergency services were called on Thursday night following reports of a disturbance inside the home. When police officers entered the property, they discovered the woman unresponsive. Despite efforts by attending personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Wiltshire Police have confirmed that the circumstances are being treated as a suspected murder.
Detective Inspector Darren Ambrose, who is leading the investigation, described the incident as deeply concerning. He confirmed that a police cordon has been placed around the property and that officers will be carrying out detailed enquiries throughout the coming days. According to him, the arrested girl is currently the only suspect, and investigators are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.
The force issued an additional statement urging members of the public to avoid speculation, especially on social media, as the investigation remains active. They warned that unverified claims or assumptions could interfere with the legal process or mislead the community.
Residents living near Baydon Close have been told to expect an increased police presence as officers conduct door to door enquiries and forensic specialists continue gathering evidence at the scene. Police say the heightened patrols are also meant to reassure the public following the sudden and unsettling incident.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
