The lifeless body of a middle-aged woman, identified simply as Falmata, has been discovered near the Federal University, Gashu’a, in Yobe State, sparking fear and outrage among residents of the area.
According to reports, the body was found in the early hours of Friday, October 17, 2025, by residents of the community. The deceased was said to be a well-known food vendor who operated an eatery at the Kasuwar Gwari Motor Park in Gashu’a.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to reporters described the discovery as shocking, noting that the victim was popular and well-liked within the community for her hard work and peaceful nature.
“She was a humble and industrious woman. Her sudden death has thrown the entire area into mourning,” a resident said.
Another resident, Abubakar Modibbo, expressed grief and concern over the incident in a statement shared with journalists.
“The alleged murder of innocent Falmata raises a myriad of unanswered questions after her body was found discarded behind Federal University, Gashu’a,” he said. “This has tragically sent waves of fear and sadness across the town. Before her death, she was a food seller at Kasuwar Gwari and lived in Sarkin Hausawa Ward, Abasha, near Maman Blessing’s restaurant.”
Modibbo further lamented the growing insecurity in Gashu’a, warning that such incidents pose a serious threat to the peace and stability of the town.
“These experiences are terrifying and a great threat to the peaceful coexistence of Gashu’a and its inhabitants. The town was known for its calmness, but it is now being troubled by some faceless and bloodthirsty individuals,” he added.
Residents have appealed to the Yobe State Police Command to investigate the circumstances surrounding Falmata’s death and to bring those responsible to justice. They also called for increased security patrols, especially around the Federal University axis and nearby residential areas, to prevent similar occurrences.
