Woman Arrested for Allegedly Pouring Boiling Oil on Husband and Sprinkling Chilli Powder on His Wounds
Police in Delhi, India, have arrested a woman accused of attacking her husband with boiling oil and chilli powder while he was asleep in their home.
The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of October 2 in the Madangir area of Delhi, where the couple lived with their six-month-old daughter.
According to police reports, the victim, 28-year-old Dinesh, awoke around 3:15 a.m. to an intense burning sensation and saw his wife, Sadhana, standing over him. He alleged that she poured boiling oil onto his face and torso before sprinkling chilli powder on his fresh burns.
Dinesh, who works as a medical representative, told investigators that his wife also threatened to pour more oil if he attempted to shout or seek help.
His cries eventually alerted neighbours, but witnesses said Sadhana refused to open the door when they rushed to the scene. The landlord’s family later intervened, and Dinesh was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where he remains in intensive care due to severe burn injuries.
Neighbours told local media that the couple, who had moved into the building about seven months ago, were known to have frequent domestic disputes. One resident, Manju, said she learned about their troubled relationship shortly after moving in two months ago, while another neighbour, Anjali, confirmed hearing Dinesh’s screams that night.
Police officers from Ambedkar Nagar Station have launched an investigation, confirming that the couple had been married for eight years and had previously reported incidents of marital conflict.
Authorities have since arrested Sadhana, who remains in custody as investigations continue. Police said statements from witnesses and the medical report will guide further legal action.
