Veteran journalist and broadcaster Aliyu Abubakar Getso has passed away, marking the end of an era for Kano’s media community and the Nigerian broadcasting landscape at large.
Family sources confirmed that the respected media figure died on Sunday morning in Kano after battling a long illness.
The late Getso was a familiar and beloved voice on radio, known for his eloquence, professionalism, and decades of contribution to journalism in northern Nigeria. Over the years, he worked with several reputable media organizations, including Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM.
Colleagues and listeners across the country have begun sharing tributes, describing him as a dedicated journalist, mentor, and role model who inspired a generation of broadcasters through his passion for truth and service to society.
He is survived by three wives, many children, and grandchildren.
According to the family, funeral prayers (Janazah) will be held at 9:30 a.m. today (Sunday) at his residence near Second Gate, Janbulo, in the Kabuga area of Kano City.
The passing of Aliyu Abubakar Getso is being mourned deeply by media professionals, listeners, and admirers who remember him as one of the voices that shaped modern radio journalism in northern Nigeria.
