University Student Murders Friend, Hides Corpse Indoors

A tragic incident has occurred at the University of Jos, Plateau State, where a student allegedly murdered his friend and attempted to conceal the body inside their residence.

According to on Monday, October 27, 2025, the victim, identified as Peter Mafuyai, a 300-level student of Banking and Finance, was reportedly killed by his colleague, Nanpon Timnan, a 200-level student of Agricultural Science, at their off-campus apartment in Rusau Village, Jos North Local Government Area.

PUNCH Metro reported that a Facebook user, Happy Londi, shared a video claiming that Nanpon was responsible for Peter’s death. Another video circulating online showed Peter’s lifeless body being placed in an ambulance and covered with a purple cloth.

In a separate clip shared by another user, Mc Pee, a man believed to be a student narrated that the suspect attacked Peter with a machete, ignoring his pleas for mercy and threatening others who tried to intervene. The victim reportedly attempted to flee but fell, after which the suspect caught up with him and continued the assault.

A security and counter-insurgency expert later confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Plateau State Police Command had arrested the suspect. Citing information from the university’s Chief Security Officer, the expert revealed that the suspect, identified as 23-year-old David Nanpon Timmap, allegedly killed 22-year-old Peter Mata Mafurai and buried him in a shallow grave inside his room.

Police officers from the Laranto Division were said to have received a distress call around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. They immediately moved to the scene, arrested the suspect, and exhumed the victim’s body, which was taken to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The incident has sparked renewed public concern about rising violent crimes and conflicts among young people in Nigeria.
