A tragic incident has left residents of Ilorin, Kwara State, in shock after a 25-year-old man, Hammed Usman Tunde, was allegedly stabbed to death by his close friend, Gafar, following a heated argument reportedly over a girlfriend.
The unfortunate event happened on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Oja Gboro Quarters, Ilorin. According to eyewitnesses, the two friends, known to be inseparable companions, were buying sugarcane from a Hausa vendor when a disagreement broke out between them. The verbal exchange quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which Gafar allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Tunde in the chest.
Sources said Tunde, who lived at Ile-Soro 2, Oja Gboro, Isale Koko, was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was later referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The suspect, a 21-year-old identified simply as Gafar, reportedly fled the scene immediately after committing the act. As of the time of this report, his whereabouts and that of his family members remain unknown, as they are said to have vacated their home.
A grieving relative of the deceased described Tunde as a calm and hardworking young man who had a bright future ahead of him. She called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to ensure that justice is served and the suspect brought to book.
“The pain is unbearable. My brother was peaceful and kind-hearted. He did not deserve to die this way,” she lamented.
The late Tunde was laid to rest on Wednesday at his family compound in Oja Gboro, according to Islamic rites.
