A tragic incident occurred in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, where a woman identified as Uchechukwu Nwizu was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
According to reports, the incident happened around 9:45 a.m. when the victim was attempting to step out of her residence on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, the strong tide of the flood overpowered her and carried both her and the motorcycle away.
A resident of the area told Punch that after the rain subsided, neighbours, family members, and relatives organized a search team to find her. After hours of searching, her lifeless body was discovered in a river in a neighbouring community.
“The woman was trying to go out with her motorcycle while it was still raining. As she stepped out of the gate, the flood on the road swept her away along with the bike,” the eyewitness said.
“It was a horrifying scene. She was shouting for help as the flood carried her away. We later found her body floating in the river after an extensive search.”
A video circulating on social media shows the moment the search and rescue team recovered her body from the river.
