Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems has launched the Leading Vibe Initiative, a mentorship and training platform aimed at empowering young women in the music industry. The initiative, which kicked off in Lagos on August 8, 2025, seeks to provide visibility and opportunities for women aspiring to become producers, engineers, and managers in a male-dominated field.
“There are so many talented women that can be producers, managers, audio engineers — but they’re not even visible,” Tems said. “I want to make them visible and redefine the perspective of women in music.”
Open to women aged 18–35, the initiative is set to expand beyond Nigeria, with Kenya as its next destination. The Lagos launch drew dozens of aspiring creatives, inspiring a sense of sisterhood and shared purpose.
Tems shared that her passion for the project comes from personal experience. “People only started taking me seriously when my music got to a place they couldn’t ignore,” she reflected. “What you really want is comfort and fulfillment — not fame.”
Through Leading Vibe, Tems hopes to reshape the African music landscape and remind women to define themselves before the world tries to do it for them.
