Residents of a compound in Enugu State were thrown into shock after two siblings, aged 17 and 10, were caught attempting to abduct an infant from their neighbour’s apartment.
The children, who lived upstairs in the same building, allegedly used a spare key to access the balcony of Micheal Munachi Jennifer, the baby’s mother, before entering her parlour. It was during the intrusion that they reportedly tried to carry away the child.
Jennifer raised alarm and caught them in the act. Upon questioning, the older sibling confessed that they had been promised a reward of ₦50,000 by an unidentified “brother” if they successfully delivered a “new baby.”
Following the incident, the 17-year-old and the alleged instigator of the plot were taken into custody and are being held at an army barracks as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of the compound has issued a one-week eviction notice to the siblings’ family, citing heightened fears among residents over safety and security.
Authorities are yet to release official statements on the case, but community members have called for swift action to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable families in the area.
