Pop superstar Taylor Swift has revealed that her fiancé, NFL player Travis Kelce, is one of the main reasons she isn’t interested in performing at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift participated in a game where she addressed rumors about herself — including speculation that she declined to perform at the event because the NFL wouldn’t let her own the rights to her performance footage.
“Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are really close,” Swift said, clarifying that there was never an official offer on the table. “They sometimes call and say, ‘How does she feel about…?’ But it’s never like a conference room conversation.”
Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, has produced the Super Bowl halftime shows since partnering with the NFL in 2019.
While denying contractual disputes, Swift explained that her decision not to perform was rooted in her desire to focus entirely on supporting Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
“The whole season, I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field,” she said. “Can you imagine if he’s out there every week, putting his life on the line, doing this dangerous, high-pressure sport, and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreo should be?’”
Swift added that although Kelce would love to see her perform, she simply wants to stay present for him. “This has nothing to do with Travis. He would love for me to do it — I’m just too locked in.”
The couple, who began dating in 2023, announced their engagement in August 2025.
Kelce has helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories — in 2020, 2023, and 2024.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell previously said Swift would be “welcome anytime” to perform, describing her as “a special, special talent.”
The next Super Bowl halftime show, set for February 2026, will be headlined by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, in collaboration with Roc Nation and Apple Music.
