The remains of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Danlami Usman, popularly known as Dan Zuru, have been laid to rest in his hometown of Jambirmi in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
ASP Usman, aged 53, was among the security operatives killed in a deadly ambush on September 19 at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack, according to reports, was carried out by a combined group of suspected herdsmen, bandits, and hired militias.
The late officer served with the Mobile Police Unit in Adeke, Makurdi, and was said to be on active duty when the incident occurred. His death adds to the growing list of security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty while combating armed violence across the country.
Family members, friends, and colleagues gathered on Saturday morning in Zuru to pay their final respects. The burial ceremony drew several mourners, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force, local community leaders, and residents who came to honor the fallen officer.
Mourners described ASP Usman as a gallant and dedicated officer who served his nation with courage, integrity, and commitment.
“He was a brave man who believed in his duty and always put the safety of others above his own,” a colleague said during the burial.
Another mourner described him as “a loyal officer whose service to the nation will never be forgotten.”
ASP Usman is survived by his wife, children, and extended family members.
