Nollywood actress and influencer Annie Macaulay has stirred conversation online after posting what many interpreted as a subtle dig at her ex-husband, Innocent “2Baba” Idibia’s mother, Rose Idibia, while celebrating her own mother’s birthday.

In a heartfelt Instagram tribute on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Annie praised her mother, Grace Essien, as a selfless grandmother who always prioritizes her grandchildren. She went on to suggest that her children need no other grandparent figure, comments that fans believe were directed at her former mother-in-law.

“So selfless, especially when it comes to her grandchildren. She puts them first always! Having her alone is all they need in a grandparent. The best! Happy Birthday to my sweet mother!! With you, my kids don’t need any other. You are simply the best,” Annie wrote.

In another post, she added:

“Happy birthday to my best friend!! The Best grandma a kid could ask for. My children are so blessed to have you, mom.”

The actress’s remarks come just months after 2Baba announced the end of his marriage to Annie in January 2025, bringing to a close a union that lasted over a decade.

The pair, who tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in 2013, share two daughters together. However, their marriage was frequently marred by public drama surrounding 2Baba’s relationships with Pero Adeniyi and Sunmbo Adeoye, both of whom also had children with the music star. With six children from three women, 2Baba’s family life remained under constant public scrutiny, often leaving Annie to defend their marriage in the spotlight.

Fans have since reacted to Annie’s latest post, with some applauding her for celebrating her mother’s role in her children’s lives, while others criticized her for allegedly throwing shade at her ex-husband’s family.
