Nigerian singer and songwriter Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, popularly known as Seyi Shay, has shared how motherhood reshaped her outlook on life and helped her heal from the pain of losing her mother.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the “Yolo Yolo” crooner reflected on how becoming a mother taught her lessons in patience, selflessness, and unconditional love — values she now deeply associates with her late mom.
“Motherhood has taught me patience, kindness, taught me how to love — not just ‘oh, I love you,’ but real love, selflessness,” Seyi Shay said. “Being a mother has also helped me forgive my mom and appreciate every sacrifice she made for me that I didn’t realize was a sacrifice before I had my kid. I was just upset that she died. Now, I’ve forgiven myself, I’ve forgiven my mother. I see from a different paradigm now.”
The Afrobeats star described the experience as one of emotional healing and spiritual growth, noting that raising a child has given her a deeper appreciation for her mother’s love and strength.
