Chandigarh, October 8: The Punjabi music industry is in mourning after popular singer and actor Rajvir Jawanda passed away on Tuesday, 12 days after a tragic road accident near Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The 35-year-old artist had been admitted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where he remained on life support with critical neurological injuries.
According to hospital sources, Jawanda sustained severe head and spinal injuries when his motorcycle collided with stray cattle that suddenly appeared on the road. He was reportedly on a biking trip to Shimla with friends at the time of the mishap. Despite intensive medical treatment and round-the-clock monitoring, doctors said his brain activity remained minimal, and his condition showed no significant improvement during the 12-day battle for survival.
Born and raised in Pona village near Jagraon in Ludhiana district, Rajvir Jawanda had carved a niche for himself in the Punjabi entertainment industry. A singer, actor, and former police officer, he was admired not just for his music but also for his grounded personality and deep connection to Punjabi culture. He was residing in Sector 71, Mohali, with his family.
Jawanda began his musical journey in 2014 with the single Munda Like Me, which instantly caught listeners’ attention. His rise to fame was marked by a series of hit tracks including Kali Jawande Di, Tu Dis Penda, Khush Reha Kar, Surname, Kamla, Mera Dil, and Sardari. His songs were known for their clean, family-friendly lyrics, catchy rhythms, and emotional depth, often celebrating Punjab’s heritage, pride, and values.
Beyond music, Rajvir Jawanda also made his mark in Punjabi cinema, appearing in several popular films such as Subedar Joginder Singh (2018), Jind Jaan (2019), and Mindo Taseeldarni (2019). His acting performances were praised for their sincerity and charm, earning him respect among both fans and peers.
The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the Punjabi music and film fraternity. Over the past several days, thousands of fans had been praying for his recovery, with ardas (prayer services) held in gurdwaras across Punjab. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Warring said:
“Saddened by the passing away of Rajvir Jawanda ji. We all prayed for his speedy recovery but sadly God had other plans. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and fans who are shattered with this tragic loss. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to his loved ones to bear this tragic loss.”
Senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia also shared his condolences, writing:
“Deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Rajvir Jawanda. Gone too soon, but his soulful voice will live on in every heartbeat of Punjab. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and millions of fans. May Waheguru bless his soul with eternal peace.”
