The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the body of a Canadian national, identified as Mr. Dwight Sullivan, has been released to his family for cremation following his sudden death in a hotel on Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to reports, Sullivan was found lifeless in his hotel room on Tuesday, sparking concern among staff and prompting a distress call to the Victoria Island Police Division.
Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi said officers responded swiftly to the scene and conducted a preliminary examination of the body.
“Upon arrival, our officers discovered that there were no visible marks of violence on the deceased, suggesting that no foul play was immediately suspected,” Adebisi stated.
The body was later moved to a morgue for preservation, while investigations were opened to determine the cause of death.
Adebisi added that the command contacted the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, through which a relative of the deceased was reached. The family member has since taken custody of the remains for cremation.
“The relative has since taken custody of the corpse for cremation,” the police spokesperson confirmed.
As of press time, police said investigations remain ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of death and to rule out any possibility of foul play.
