A Fulani pastor, Adamu Musa, has alleged that members of his own ethnic group attempted to kill him and his family after he converted from Islam to Christianity.
In a video circulating on social media, Pastor Musa who has lived in the Miango community of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, for over 17 years recounted how he narrowly escaped multiple attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani militants targeting Christians in the area.
According to him, the attackers have continued to launch periodic assaults on the community, destroying farmlands, displacing residents, and killing innocent people. He said he became a target after choosing to preach against violence and calling for peace.
“My name is Pastor Adamu Musa. I am a Fulani man who converted from Islam to Christianity. I have lived among the native people of Miango for 17 years. During this time, my own people have tried several times to kill me because of my faith,” he said.
Pastor Musa claimed that he had survived an ambush while riding his motorcycle, during which he was shot at, and that his house had been burnt down twice by suspected Fulani attackers once last year and again this year.
“They ambushed me and shot at me, but I thank God because I am a believer and I know Jesus. My prayer is that God should change them and make them come to understanding,” he said.
He also lamented the lack of adequate security presence in Miango and urged Christians in the region to remain vigilant and defend themselves against further assaults.
“We don’t have anything against them. I just want our people to protect themselves because we do not have security. The soldiers are not helping us at all,” he added.
The pastor called on the government to take urgent steps to address the persistent violence in Plateau’s Bassa axis, which has long been a flashpoint of ethno-religious conflict in the state.
