New court filings have revealed that Paris Jackson, daughter of the late pop icon Michael Jackson, has received approximately $65 million in benefits from her father’s estate. The disclosure comes amid an ongoing legal dispute between Paris and the attorneys managing the estate.
According to documents obtained by E! News, the estate’s lawyers stated that Paris “would have never received that had the Executors followed a typical playbook for an Estate like this one in July 2009,” referring to the restructuring strategy that reportedly turned around the late singer’s once-debt-ridden finances.
At the time of his death in June 2009, Michael Jackson was over $500 million in debt, but the estate has since rebounded, generating massive revenue from music catalog deals, posthumous releases, and media rights.
Paris, now 27, filed a petition earlier this year questioning the estate’s $625,000 “premium payouts” to three law firms in 2018 for unrecorded attorney time. Her attorneys claimed the estate failed to provide “adequate responses” regarding the allocations.
Michael Jackson’s other children — Prince Jackson (28) and Bigi “Blanket” Jackson (23) — are also beneficiaries of the estate.
Outside the courtroom, Paris has continued to make headlines for her music and personal life. Earlier this year, she confirmed her breakup with fiancé Justin Long, and recently performed alongside Incubus and Manchester Orchestra on tour, despite backlash over one concert date coinciding with the anniversary of her father’s death.
The court is expected to continue hearing the case in the coming weeks as both sides prepare further filings.
