The Oloje-Ogidi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was thrown into panic on Friday following the discovery of the lifeless body of a female police officer who was abducted by unidentified assailants on Thursday night.
The deceased officer, identified as a Woman Inspector (W/INSPR) serving as a prosecutor at the Ogidi Police Division, was reportedly taken away by gunmen under unclear circumstances. Her remains were discovered early Friday morning, dumped in a bush within the Oloje area.
According to credible police sources, preliminary findings suggest that the officer might have been killed shortly after her abduction. The motive behind the crime remains unknown, and investigations are said to be ongoing to track down those responsible.
The tragic discovery has thrown the Oloje and Ogidi communities into fear and mourning. Residents have expressed deep concern over the growing rate of insecurity and violent crimes in Ilorin and across the state. Many described the late officer as a dedicated and disciplined personnel who was committed to her duty.
This incident comes amid a surge in cases of kidnappings, killings, and bandit attacks across different parts of Kwara State. Reports indicate that several residents have been forced to flee their homes, especially in rural areas of Kwara North and South Senatorial Districts, due to persistent attacks by criminal gangs.
Security operatives, including the police, local vigilantes, and other agencies, have reportedly intensified operations to curb the activities of kidnappers and bandits. However, residents say more needs to be done to restore peace and confidence within affected communities.
