A Nigerian woman, Morenikeji Igwe, has shared a heartbreaking story of the challenges she faced while going into labour seven years ago.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 30, Morenikeji revealed that when her water broke early that morning, she informed her ex-partner but he ignored her plea for help.
With no bike or cab available, she said she was forced to trek for almost two hours under heavy rain to reach the hospital, despite being in labour.
“I woke my ex up, told him I needed to go to the hospital and he ignored me.
I trekked to the hospital that morning. It was raining heavily, I couldn’t get a bike or cab, so I trekked for almost two hours under heavy rain while I was in labour,” she recalled.
She explained that on arriving at the hospital, drenched and exhausted, she was met with sympathetic looks from nurses who pitied her situation.
Despite the ordeal, twelve hours later she delivered a healthy baby boy—a child she had initially thought would be a girl.
Now, as her son, Ire, turns seven, Morenikeji said she still finds it hard to believe the journey they both survived.
