Nigerian Army Officer Dies After Being Set Ablaze by Wife During Heated Argument in Akwa Ibom

Tragedy has struck the Nigerian Army following the death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who reportedly passed away after a heated altercation with his wife, Rehty, in Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, the incident occurred on September 22, 2025, at the couple’s residence. The couple, who got married on April 20, 2025, were said to have engaged in a serious argument, although the cause of the disagreement remains unclear.

In the heat of the confrontation, Rehty allegedly poured petrol on her husband and set him on fire. Neighbours and onlookers reportedly rushed the officer to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he tragically succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.

In a recent update, Rehty has been arrested and is currently in police custody, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Lieutenant Haruna’s untimely death has sparked shock and outrage among friends, colleagues, and members of the military community, many of whom have taken to social media to express their grief and disbelief.
