A cloud of mystery continues to surround the shocking deaths of Brazilian influencer Lidiane Lorenço, 33, and her teenage daughter, Miana Sophya, 15, who were discovered lifeless in their Rio de Janeiro apartment more than a week ago.
Authorities remain puzzled as no clear cause of death has yet been established, leaving family members and the public desperate for answers.
According to local reports, police found Lidiane in one of the bedrooms and Miana in the living room of their home in Barra da Tijuca, a wealthy neighborhood in the southwest of Rio. Investigators confirmed there were no visible signs of violence on their bodies, further deepening the mystery.
The family’s lawyer, Rodrigo Moulin, revealed that a forensic examination carried out on Friday has only led to more questions than answers.
“The forensic examination actually raises more questions because the police are being cautious. They don’t want to rule anything out. This examination definitely brings up more issues for the case,” Moulin told local news outlet G1.
Experts working on the case did, however, make a crucial discovery the apartment’s gas system was installed incorrectly. Moulin explained:
“The heater is installed in a completely irregular manner, and the gas outlet from the chimney leads back into the apartment itself.”
This irregular setup has led to possible suspicions of gas poisoning, though authorities are also exploring other potential causes, including food-related or medical factors.
Lidiane, who had moved to Rio de Janeiro several years ago, was studying medicine while also working as a model and social media influencer. Her daughter Miana had recently relocated from SĂ£o Paulo to live with her mother.
Both mother and daughter were known to have pre-existing health conditions. Lidiane reportedly suffered from thrombophilia, which causes blood clots, while Miana had hemophilia, a condition that prevents normal blood clotting.
Police sources indicated that Miana’s body was found in a more advanced state of decomposition, suggesting she may have died before her mother though this has not been confirmed.
“We have to wait for the final forensic and toxicology reports before drawing any conclusions,” Moulin said, adding that the death certificates will be crucial in understanding what really happened.
The heartbreaking case has shocked Brazilians, especially followers of Lidiane, who often shared glimpses of her life, studies, and motherhood online. As investigations continue, the family and the wider public await clarity in what has become one of Rio’s most puzzling recent tragedies.
