Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku has shared a heartfelt message about postpartum depression, urging men to understand and appreciate the transformation women experience after childbirth.
In an emotional post shared on Instagram on Saturday, Njoku described postpartum depression as “mourning the death of the girl you once were and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming.”
She explained that motherhood brings deep physical, emotional, and psychological changes, emphasizing that partners must evolve alongside the women they love.
“Motherhood is as real as it gets.
So, to truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was.
She is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become,” Njoku wrote.
The ROK Studios founder, known for her outspoken views on family, identity, and gender roles, also shared a humorous yet thoughtful message for men.
“So, my dear men, look at the bright side: you get to love ‘different’ women at different stages of your marriage or relationship.
Brothers, nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!”
Njoku’s post has resonated widely online, sparking conversations about the emotional realities of motherhood and the need for empathy from partners. Many praised her for shedding light on an often overlooked aspect of maternal mental health while blending wisdom with wit.
