The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old married man, identified as Abi Baragon, for allegedly st@bbing his side chic, Orineme Ayanate, multiple times after she reportedly rejected his marriage proposal.
The shocking incident, which first came to light in June 2025, gained public attention when a disturbing video surfaced online showing the victim crying for help and lying in a pool of her own bl00d. The clip quickly went viral, sparking outrage across social media platforms and prompting calls for justice.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 17, 2025, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest of the suspect. According to the statement, officers from the Human Rights Department, State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, acted swiftly after the video surfaced. Using intelligence-led policing and technical support, the operatives tracked down and apprehended Baragon on October 13, 2025, in connection with the violent incident.
“It was alleged that the suspect’s motive for the assault stemmed from the victim’s rejection of his marriage overtures, prompted by her discovery that the suspect was already married with four children an allegation he denied,” SP Iringe-Koko stated.
The police spokesperson further revealed that during interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to attacking the victim with bottles and other sharp objects. He is currently being held in police custody, while the victim is receiving urgent medical care at a hospital.
Authorities say an in-depth investigation is ongoing to fully uncover the circumstances surrounding the assault, including whether it was premeditated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, praised the swift efforts of the operatives involved in the arrest and commended members of the public for sharing credible information that aided the investigation.
“The Command appreciates the public for their continued cooperation in ensuring that justice is served and that violent crimes are promptly addressed,” the statement concluded.
