The 29-year-old journalist was killed during a robbery attack at her apartment in Abuja on Monday, September 29, an incident that has sparked nationwide grief and renewed debates over insecurity in Nigeria. Police authorities have since launched an investigation into the crime.

Many Nigerians were particularly moved by a tweet Christelle posted on August 14, where she expressed deep concern for her safety.
She wrote: “I pray from the depth of my heart that Nigeria never happens to me or anyone I care about.”

In light of her death, the words have taken on the weight of a haunting premonition, leaving friends, colleagues, and admirers shaken.

Final Conversation With a Friend
Adding to the sorrow, a close friend, identified as @caesfire on X (formerly Twitter), shared a screenshot of his last chat with Christelle. In the conversation, she admitted she was struggling emotionally, writing that something was “trying to eat” her and that she was simply “trying to survive.”

Mourning her, he posted:

Sommie, we spoke about this last month. I will never forget you, my beautiful, intelligent, and elegant friend ❤️ I am heartbroken.

Her death has triggered an outpouring of grief online, with many Nigerians lamenting the worsening insecurity in the country. Social media users questioned whether anywhere is truly safe, noting that such a brutal attack could happen in the nation’s capital.

Condolence messages have continued to pour in from friends, colleagues, and members of the public, who described Christelle as a brilliant, passionate, and elegant journalist whose promising life was cruelly cut short.
