Lagos Police Chief, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, Dies After Surgery

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, has passed away in Lagos.

Reports confirm that CSP Ngbaronye died on Friday, October 24, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m. while undergoing fibroid surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos State.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the tragic development in an official statement on Saturday.

“The Lagos State Police Command deeply regrets to announce the passing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Festac Division, CSP Matilda Ngbaronye, who sadly passed away after undergoing surgery,” the statement read in part.

The Command described CSP Ngbaronye as a truly upright, disciplined, and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity.

She was widely respected for her humane approach to policing, her strong sense of duty, and her efforts in building trust between the Police and the public.

“Her friendly disposition and commitment to service helped bridge the gap between the Police and the people she dutifully served. At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohudare Jimoh, alongside all officers and men of the Command, expressed deep sorrow over her passing.

He has reportedly reached out personally to her husband, elder brother (a priest), and aged mother to extend condolences and assure them of the Command’s support during this painful time.

“The news of her demise came as a rude shock to the entire Command. Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

CSP Matilda Ngbaronye’s death has left a void in the Lagos Police Command, where she was celebrated as a model officer and a mentor to many.

Lagos Woman Missing After Message About Wrong Car
