The family of late ARISE News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, has announced her funeral arrangements following her tragic death during a robbery attack in Abuja on September 29, 2025.
According to the family’s statement, the burial rites will begin on Saturday, October 12, with a Night of Tributes at the THISDAY Dome, Abuja, starting at 6 p.m.
A Service of Songs will take place on Tuesday, October 15, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.
Her final burial will be held on Friday, October 18, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra State, following a Funeral Service at 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, security authorities have reported major progress in the ongoing investigation into the robbery that claimed her life.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed that 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings of Maduagwu and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, at Unique Apartment, Gishiri Village, Katampe District, Abuja.
Police investigations revealed that one of the suspects confessed to escaping with the victims’ white Honda CR-V, while others admitted to receiving ₦200,000 each from the proceeds of the crime.
Recovered items include a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 36 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a locally made pistol, pump-action gun, two live cartridges, four mobile phones, two knives, a cutlass, and nine torchlights used during the operation.
Authorities disclosed that further arrests were made on October 8, when the remaining gang members were captured during an attempted robbery in Maitama, Abuja. All suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement, while efforts are ongoing to track others still at large.
Somtochukwu’s sudden death has continued to spark widespread grief and tributes from her colleagues, fans, and the wider public. Many have described her as a brilliant, courageous, and passionate journalist whose dedication to storytelling left a lasting impression on Nigeria’s media landscape.
Her funeral events are expected to attract prominent figures, media personalities, family, and friends from across the country all gathering to honour a rising star whose light was extinguished far too soon.
