American rapper and singer Jason Bradley DeFord, known professionally as Jelly Roll, has opened up about one of the darkest moments in his life — admitting to cheating on his wife, Bunnie XO.
The “Need a Favor” singer, 40, and his wife, 45, tied the knot in 2016 and recently marked their ninth wedding anniversary. But behind their enduring love story was a painful chapter that nearly tore them apart.
Speaking on the Human School podcast, Jelly Roll became emotional as he recounted the affair, describing it as “one of the worst moments” of his adult life.
“One of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife. Because it was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. I know I’m madly in love with this woman, but I let people and situations get in my head,’” he said. “It just really, really, really blew me back.”
The country-rap star revealed that his infidelity happened during a period when he was struggling with substance abuse and surrounded by people who normalized destructive behavior.
“I was hanging around a bunch of people that were cheating on their wives. When I was doing cocaine, I was hanging around a bunch of people that were doing cocaine,” he shared. “I used to be proud of long-standing friendships just because they had a number attached to them — horrible humans.”
The couple briefly separated in 2018 before reconciling and renewing their vows in 2023 in Las Vegas — the same city where they first got married. Reflecting on that journey, Jelly Roll said he regrets the affair but is proud of how far they’ve come.
“I wish our story would’ve gone in a way that it never had an affair. I’m not glad it happened, but man, I’m proud of who we are today. I truly am,” he said.
Bunnie XO had previously referenced their breakup in a 2023 TikTok post, writing,
“Who knew that us breaking up in 2018, me moving back to Vegas & you coming to get me back — would have put us on this wild journey called life… Our castle in the sand had to crumble so we could rebuild on solid ground.”
The pair’s love story began in 2015 when they met at a Las Vegas bar. At the time, Jelly Roll was living in a van and yet to achieve fame, but Bunnie said she felt an instant connection after seeing him perform.
Despite battles with addiction, time in prison, and public scrutiny, the couple has remained open about their struggles — a transparency that has deepened their connection with fans.
Speaking to PEOPLE in 2024, Jelly Roll described his wife as his rock.
“I prioritize family, and that’s what anchors me down. My world shrunk when I focused on one woman,” he said.
He proposed to Bunnie on stage in 2016, and they exchanged vows that same night. They later renewed their vows in 2023 at the same Las Vegas chapel where they were first married.
Bunnie celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary in September with photos of the couple in Germany, captioned,
“Life is ours, we live it our way 💫 9 years of us ✨.”
Last month, she faced backlash online after sharing a video of herself holding a glass of wine during a trip to Italy. Critics accused her of breaking sobriety, but she clarified that her past struggles were with hard drugs, not alcohol, and that she drinks occasionally in moderation.
Through heartbreak, healing, and hard lessons, Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO have remained united — showing fans that love, when nurtured with honesty and growth, can weather even the toughest storms.
