Jealous NYC Woman Flew to Florida, Killed Ex-Boyfriend’s New Girlfriend After Being Blocked on Social Media

A 31-year-old woman from New York, Sakiyna Thompson, has been found guilty of first-degree murder for the brutal killing of her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, 23-year-old Kayla Hodgson, in South Florida.

According to reports by the New York Post and NBC Miami, Thompson flew from New York to Florida in July 2022 after discovering that Hodgson had blocked her on social media. Investigators said the act triggered a jealous rage, as Thompson could not accept that her former partner had moved on with another woman.

Upon arriving in Tamarac Village, Broward County, Thompson allegedly went straight to Hodgson’s apartment and asked to speak with her “woman to woman.” Witnesses and investigators said the conversation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation that ended with Hodgson being stabbed multiple times.

Prosecutors described the assault as a “planned and jealous attack,” emphasizing that Thompson’s actions were deliberate and premeditated.

According to court testimony, Thompson was two months pregnant at the time of the killing. She told the court she acted in self-defense, claiming Hodgson attacked her first with a glass from a hookah and that she feared for her unborn baby’s life.

However, prosecutors dismissed her account, arguing that the evidence pointed to a calculated act of revenge rather than self-defense. Investigators revealed that after the stabbing, Thompson changed into the victim’s clothes, attempted to clean parts of the crime scene, and tried to hide evidence before fleeing the apartment.

Police later found Kayla Hodgson’s body inside her apartment on July 13, 2022, with multiple stab wounds. The crime shocked residents of the quiet Tamarac community and drew widespread attention due to the disturbing nature of the attack.

Following a lengthy investigation and trial, Thompson was convicted on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in a Florida court. Jurors unanimously found her guilty of first-degree murder, rejecting her claims of self-defense.

Prosecutors called the killing “a deadly act of jealousy turned into rage,” describing Thompson as a woman consumed by obsession and unable to move on from her past relationship.

Thompson now faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, with formal sentencing expected in the coming weeks.

The case has reignited conversations about the dangers of jealousy, online obsession, and digital-age relationships — where social media conflicts can escalate into real-world violence.

Authorities urged individuals struggling with emotional distress or relationship issues to seek counseling or professional help instead of resorting to violence.
