Renowned gospel singer Tope Alabi has revealed how she endured years of heartbreak, abuse, and emotional trauma before finding peace in marriage.
In a candid interview, the celebrated worship leader recounted how several men she dated left her after claiming to have received spiritual warnings not to marry her.
“When I was a spinster, whenever it was time for any man I dated to meet my parents, they would find one excuse to dump me. They said prophets told them not to marry me. This happened with about four men,” she said.
After repeated heartbreaks, Tope met another man who appeared different and promised marriage. Trusting him, she moved in with him — a decision she would later regret deeply.
“He said he didn’t believe in praying before marriage and promised to settle down with me. My father asked him to bring his family, but he only came with friends and never returned,” she recalled.
The singer revealed that the relationship soon turned abusive.
“He was always beating me. I didn’t know he already had a fiancée,” she said. “I remember I got pregnant and carried it for a year — my stomach was protruding and going flat. The baby had to be evacuated.”
Despite the trauma, Tope became pregnant again. However, the man abandoned her completely.
“After a while, I got pregnant again and went to live with my parents. The father of the baby never asked of me till I had the child. I had to carry the baby to see him four days after delivery,” she narrated.
Reflecting on her painful journey, the gospel star offered a heartfelt warning to women about the dangers of emotional vulnerability and rushing into relationships without true commitment.
“Ladies, never let love or a painful past push you to live with a man before marriage,” she advised. “See finish will set in, and he will take you for granted. I saw hell. May you not experience affliction in life.”
Through her testimony, Tope Alabi’s story serves as a powerful reminder that self-worth, patience, and discernment are vital in matters of the heart.
