HEARTBREAKING: 12-Year-Old Boy Comes Home from School to Find His Parents Have Moved Away Without Him
Police in Copperas Cove, Texas, say a 12-year-old boy came home from school only to find his house completely empty his parents had packed up and moved away without telling him.
Authorities say the boy called police on Friday, October 17, after returning to the family home on Primrose Drive and realizing that all the furniture and belongings were gone. His mother, Erica Renee Sanders, and her partner, Keven Dwayne Adams, were nowhere to be found.
According to investigators, the couple had talked about moving but never told the child when it would happen. Shocked and confused, the boy turned to a neighbor for help, who then contacted the police. That same neighbor revealed that the couple had previously kicked the boy out of the home several times.
When questioned, Sanders and Adams reportedly told officers the boy was “supposed to stay with an uncle” but refused to give any contact details. When police tracked down the uncle, he said he had no idea about any such arrangement.
Both adults were later arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return a serious offense under Texas law that can carry up to 10 years in prison, depending on the level of neglect or danger.
During questioning, police say Adams “complained at length” about his girlfriend’s son and appeared frustrated by the investigation.
Thankfully, the boy is now safe and receiving care from child welfare services. Neighbors described him as polite, quiet, and well-mannered.
“He’s a good kid,” one neighbor told reporters. “It breaks your heart that someone could just leave their child like that.”
