Actress Francia Raisa, best known for donating a kidney to Selena Gomez in 2017, has spoken publicly about the ongoing rumors of a rift between the two — following speculation that she was not invited to Gomez’s wedding to producer Benny Blanco.
In a recent interview filmed at what appeared to be a bookstore event, the 37-year-old How I Met Your Father star addressed questions about her relationship with Gomez, insisting that reports of a falling out were “just rumors.”
Speaking in Spanish, Raisa expressed nothing but good wishes toward Gomez as the pop star prepares for her next chapter in life.
“I know she’s getting married, and I’m very happy for her,” Raisa said in the interview, according to translated subtitles. “She has a life and she is already a billionaire, and I am grateful that I could do that for her.”
Raisa’s words appeared to directly reference Gomez’s then-upcoming wedding to Benny Blanco, which she reportedly did not attend a detail that reignited public speculation about their friendship.
When asked about online claims suggesting she was “angry” with Gomez for allegedly not taking care of her health after the kidney transplant, Raisa pushed back firmly.
“Right now what you are asking me is nonsense that has been in the media — there are too many rumors,” she said. “I’ve never said anything. When that rumor came out that I had gotten angry or something like that because [Gomez] was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors.”
Raisa added that neither she nor Gomez have ever publicly discussed their personal relationship since the transplant.
“No one knows what’s going on, and neither she nor I are talking about it. One day, maybe we will address it,” she shared.
Raisa also spoke thoughtfully about her experience as an organ donor and the misconceptions people often have about the process.
“From the beginning, the doctors told me it’s a donation,” she said. “If you’re going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or somewhere else, you’re not going to call to say, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?’ It’s a donation and it’s something nice that I was able to do.”
Reflecting on her decision to give Gomez one of her kidneys amid the singer’s battle with lupus, Raisa added:
“I am grateful that I am alive and I can say that I have saved a life.”
She also noted that organ donation could be “more difficult for women” than for men, though she didn’t elaborate further on the challenges involved.
Selena Gomez first revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2015, and two years later, she received a kidney transplant from Raisa — her close friend at the time. The moment was publicly acknowledged by Gomez in an emotional Instagram post, where she thanked Raisa for “the ultimate gift of life.”
While the two have since been rumored to have grown apart, Raisa’s latest comments suggest she harbors no resentment and continues to wish Gomez well.
