The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has reportedly travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.
This development follows an earlier statement from the Presidency, which disclosed that the minister was receiving treatment at his home in Abuja, and might seek further medical care abroad if required.
According to multiple reliable sources who confirmed the update on Tuesday, Edun has now left the country. One source stated, “It’s true, he has left already.”
Reports indicate that the minister departed Abuja for Lagos on Monday night via a commercial flight before connecting to a British Airways flight to London later that evening.
In a statement issued earlier, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, would lead the government’s economic team in Edun’s absence, noting that the minister was currently “indisposed.”
There had been widespread speculation suggesting that Edun suffered a stroke and was flown abroad in critical condition. However, Presidential aides have firmly denied those reports, insisting that the minister is recuperating and in good spirits.
Edun, a key figure in President Bola Tinubu’s economic team, has been instrumental in implementing the administration’s fiscal and monetary reforms aimed at stabilizing the economy and attracting investment.
