Etinosa Idemudia Opens Up on Abusive Marriage and Drug Use to Cope

Etinosa Idemudia

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Etinosa Idemudia has revealed that she ended her marriage after enduring repeated physical and emotional abuse from her ex-husband.

Speaking in an emotional interview with Chude Jideonwo on With Chude, the actress recounted the painful experiences she faced during her marriage. She disclosed that her ex-husband once told her he was not her friend but her “lord,” a statement that reflected the imbalance and toxicity in their relationship.

According to Etinosa, the abuse became so unbearable that she began using drugs to cope with the situation at home.

“Somebody that told me that ‘I am not your friend, I am your lord.’ There was even a time I had to drug myself. It got to a point where I was on drugs. Whenever he was coming home — normally, as a woman, you should be happy your husband is coming home — but I would just stash up and dope up so that no matter what he says or does, I will just be there. Just so that there would be peace,” she said.

The actress explained that her dependency on drugs was not for pleasure but a desperate attempt to numb the pain and fear she constantly felt.

Etinosa, known for her roles in Blood of Enogie and Chairman, has since rebuilt her life and career, becoming one of Nollywood’s most outspoken advocates for women’s rights and mental health awareness.
