Tragedy struck Nindama village in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State as gunmen launched a deadly attack in the early hours of Friday, October 10, 2025, leaving at least eight people dead and six others missing.
According to reports shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter), the attackers stormed the quiet community around 3:30 a.m., opening fire indiscriminately on residents who were still asleep. The assault, which lasted several minutes, threw the entire village into chaos as families fled for safety in the dark.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as “terrifying,” with homes and farmlands reportedly destroyed during the attack. Two residents sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
By Friday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., a combined team of security operatives including the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) arrived at the scene. They were accompanied by the Executive Chairman of Kokona LGA, Hon. Agbawu M. Agbawu, who condemned the violence and assured the community of government support.
Local sources said the bodies of the victims have been deposited at a mortuary, while search operations are ongoing for the six missing persons. Preliminary findings suggest that the attack may be connected to a lingering land dispute between rival groups in the area, though authorities are yet to confirm the exact motive.
Security agencies have vowed to intensify patrols and enhance surveillance across the region to prevent further violence. They have also appealed to residents to remain calm and report any suspicious movement to law enforcement.
The recent attack adds to the growing concerns over rising insecurity in rural parts of Nasarawa State, where several communities have suffered similar assaults in recent months.
As investigations continue, families of the victims and displaced residents are calling for justice and lasting peace, urging the government to address the root causes of violence that have plagued their communities for years.
