Convention: PDP Urges INEC, Judiciary, and Security Agencies to Demonstrate Patriotism and Professionalism
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the judiciary, and security agencies to demonstrate a high sense of patriotism, neutrality, and professionalism ahead of its 2025 National Convention.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Media Sub-Committee for the Convention, the PDP expressed growing concern among its members that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might allegedly be plotting to use judicial processes to either delay or disrupt the convention.
The statement emphasized that the opposition party is confident in the leadership of the new INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, but will continue to keep a close watch on the actions of the commission before, during, and after the exercise to ensure transparency and fairness.
The PDP further warned that attempts by “destructive elements” within or outside the party allegedly working for the ruling APC to sabotage the process would be resisted.
“These fears are not unfounded,” the statement read. “Going by the APC’s antecedents, the possibility of using inter- and intra-party destructive elements to thwart the PDP’s November convention cannot be ruled out. They must be reminded that nemesis will catch up with them sooner than later.”
The party’s national convention is scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where major decisions on its leadership and direction ahead of the next election cycle are expected to be made.
