Popular Nigerian skit maker and streamer Carter Efe, whose real name is Odahohwo Joseph Efe, has stirred social media after describing gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey as the “biggest streamer in Africa.”
Carter Efe made the statement while acknowledging the remarkable online engagement recorded during the ongoing Hallelujah Challenge, a midnight worship and prayer session hosted by Bassey across social media platforms.
According to Efe, one of the recent live sessions attracted over 800,000 viewers on YouTube, a number he found extraordinary for a gospel program.
“Nobody talks when @nathanielblow does 800k views on YouTube live like 800k people dey watch live! Baba oooo BIGGEST STREAMER IN AFRICA. TAKE AM PLAY,” he tweeted via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
However, his comment sparked mixed reactions online, as several users questioned his comparison between a gospel minister and entertainers in the streaming space.
Below are some of the reactions:
- @Plug08066: “Is Nathan your peer?”
- @Naijagistblog_: “Carter Efe too mumu! How can you call a pastor a streamer?”
- @abiodun_chase54: “Wetin you smoke this evening, Carter? Na pastor you dey call streamer.”
- @Vickyvellyy: “Church content dey go far gan… guy you fit check that niche out o.”
- @EchoWaverave: “When pastor turn streamer, Carter?”
- @Tony_Dior1: “That one nah small, he did 1 million views the other day.”
Despite the backlash, some fans defended Carter Efe, interpreting his statement as a compliment to Bassey’s growing digital influence.
Nathaniel Bassey’s Hallelujah Challenge continues to draw massive online participation annually, further cementing his position as one of Africa’s most digitally engaging gospel artists.
