A 20-year-old British man, Jensen Westhead, has been found dead in Dubai after reportedly swallowing several packages of cocaine, one of which is believed to have burst inside his stomach.
According to reports, Westhead ingested the drug-filled packets before boarding a flight from Manchester Airport to the United Arab Emirates. Authorities say the rupture of one of the packets caused a fatal overdose, leading to his death shortly after arriving in Dubai.
His body was discovered at the Hotel Avalon on December 4, 2024, prompting a joint investigation between Dubai authorities and British law enforcement.
Following inquiries, four individuals — Rebecca Hatch, Glenn Hatch, Alexander Tofton, and Steven Stephenson — have been charged in connection with the case. They are accused of conspiracy to fraudulently evade the prohibition on the exportation of a Class A drug.
Additionally, Stephenson faces an extra charge related to the supply of cocaine.
All four defendants are expected to appear before Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on October 31, where the charges will be formally read.
The tragedy underscores Dubai’s strict zero-tolerance drug laws, among the toughest in the world, where even trace amounts of banned substances can lead to lengthy imprisonment or, in extreme cases, the death penalty.
