The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor Duro Michael, who reportedly passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after years of battling severe health complications.
News of his passing was confirmed on Thursday by filmmaker and colleague Stanleyontop, who paid tribute to the late actor.
Duro Michael had long struggled with declining health, particularly complications from diabetes, which eventually led to the amputation of one of his legs. Following the surgery, he publicly appealed for financial assistance to cover medical expenses and to acquire a prosthetic limb for mobility.
In 2022, religious leader Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin extended support to the ailing actor with a donation of ₦5 million, a gesture that drew attention to the plight of many veteran actors facing health and financial struggles after decades in the industry.
Despite his physical challenges, Michael never gave up on his craft. In 2024, he made a heartfelt appeal to Nollywood producers to cast him in roles, stressing his desire to remain active in the industry that had defined much of his life.
Tributes have since poured in from colleagues and fans, who described him as a resilient, passionate actor whose contributions to Nollywood will not be forgotten.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
