The Nigerian and international medical community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Dr. Olumide Osoba, a prominent US-based physician.His passing was confirmed by his family on Tuesday night, shortly after he died.
Dr. Osoba, widely respected for his clinical expertise and mentorship, began his educational journey at Lagos Anglican Boys Grammar School before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he graduated with an MBBS (Honors) from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL). He later earned the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in the United Kingdom.
Motivated by a passion for excellence in medicine, he moved to the United States where he specialised in General Internal Medicine. Over the years, Dr. Osoba distinguished himself in various capacities, serving as Emergency Room Director at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
He later established his own private practice near Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn, where he became a trusted doctor within the African American and Nigerian communities. Among his patients were members of the Nigerian Diplomatic Corps attached to the United Nations.
Dr. Osoba also served as a staff physician for Long Island University, where he provided care to both students and staff, further cementing his reputation as a compassionate and dedicated professional.
Beyond his medical practice, he was celebrated for mentoring Nigerian foreign medical graduates, offering guidance and support that helped many of them advance to senior roles in the global medical profession.
Colleagues and patients have described him as a brilliant physician with a warm bedside manner, whose impact transcended borders.
Dr. Osoba is survived by his wife and children. His death has left a profound void among family, friends, colleagues, and the communities he served in both Nigeria and the United States.
